This is a favorite of our guides, and an amazing birdwatching adventure, that is waiting for you in the beautiful community of Los Planes. This area is one of the most unexplored birding destinations in the Osa Peninsula. Los Planes is a rural community inside the Golfe Dulce Forest Reserve, just 7 kilometers from the center of Drake Bay, Costa Rica. It is a wildlife and bird watching hotspot that recently started to gain popularity among local and visiting birders.

Surrounded by cattle fields, gardens, un-paved roads and plenty of rainforest, this birding paradise is a must visit during your time in Drake Bay.

In this adventure we will travel by land, enjoying the amazing landscape and views. Los Planes Ranger Station of Corcovado National Park is where we will start our birding session. We will continue along the rural roads, garden edges, and open areas following the trail. The walking path is wide and flat, making it a good vantage point for spotting birds and other wildlife. The trail forms a loop walk surrounded by first growth forest. We will be exploring the lush vegetation and trees searching for birdlife and wildlife.

Our target bird species here are:

• Crested Guan
• Blue-crowned Manakin
• Black-cheeked Ant-Tanager
• Scarlet Macaw
• Bay-headed,Tanager
• Yellow-throated Toucan
• Baird’s Trogon
• and many more.

After a snack we will move to Selva Casa Grande where we will do the trail to the Rio Claro canyon viewpoint to search the thermal current for King Vulture, White Hawk or maybe the amazing Black Hawk-Eagle. After that we will enjoy our lunch and return to Drake Bay.

This tour is an excellent opportunity for birders with all levels of experience, photography lovers, and people that look for unique experiences while exploring one of the most secretive birding & wildlife destinations in Osa peninsula.
